Vision

National service, volunteerism, and civic engagement are the foundation for caring communities and a thriving Washington. 

Mission

Serve Washington advances national service, volunteerism and civic engagement to improve lives; expands opportunity to meet the local critical needs of residents of Washington; and strengthens community capacity while creating healthy and resilient communities.

Beliefs

  • National service, volunteerism, and civic engagement are fundamental to achieve equity, strengthen communities, and improve lives.
  • National service resources are accessible to all communities to help meet their critical needs.
  • Volunteerism promotes bonds across various races, cultures, beliefs, backgrounds and experiences.
  • Service is a pathway to education and employment.

Goals

  • Catalyze opportunities for participation in national service, volunteerism, and civic engagement in Washington communities.

Catalyze opportunities for participation in national service, volunteerism and civic engagement in Washington communities

Provide effective administration and oversight of AmeriCorps resources

  1. Develop a diverse grant portfolio of high-quality, high-impact competitive and formula programs that meet CNCS and/or Serve WA priority areas.

  1. Create and enhance partnerships in the public and private sectors around service and volunteerism which facilitate greater collaboration.

  1. Increase the capacity of subgrantees to administer effective, compliant, high quality national service programs.

  1. Ensure national service resources are available to tribes, rural and underserved communities.

  1. Educate state and federal lawmakers and tribal leaders on issues impacting national service.

  1. Subgrantees demonstrate improvement on risk assessments.

  1. Foster philanthropic, corporate, labor, tribal and civic partnerships to support and expand national service.

  1. Encourage public and private sector to employ AmeriCorps members following their national service terms.

 
  1. Build public awareness of opportunities to be civically engaged.

  1. Promote appreciation, support and participation for service and volunteerism.
