The Cispus Learning Center administers a nine-member AmeriCorps team focused on building assets in youth in the local schools and rural communities in East Lewis County, which is located in the Cowlitz River Valley, surrounded by the Cascade Mountains with Mt. Rainier to the north and Mount St. Helens to the south. The program gives youth the skills and tools they need to succeed in school and in life. Cispus AmeriCorps has three main focus areas: tutoring, mentoring, and community strengthening.
Members are placed throughout three different school districts at both primary and secondary levels where they assist teachers by providing one-on-one or small group tutoring in the classroom. Members also provide mentoring through after-school and evening programs, and work in partnership with other non-profit organizations and agencies in the area.
