Cowlitz AmeriCorps Network serves a rural county of about 100,000 individuals in Southwest Washington State under the direction of Life Works. Each year, members of all ages and backgrounds address a variety of pressing human needs.
Members are assigned to schools, non-profit agencies, faith based and government entities in Cowlitz County. Service beneficiaries include the mentally ill, homeless, those fighting addiction, victims of violence, veterans, the disabled, non-English speakers, and students whose performance is well below expected standards. Several positions focus on recruiting, training and acknowledging community members to volunteer their time and skills to alleviate local problems.
All first year members receive emergency response training to improve their knowledge and confidence to make an appropriate response during an emergency situation or a local disaster. Our members enjoy an adult, team-building experience in the outdoors, and have several enjoyable field trips that draw members together in their commitment to service.
