The Kitsap Community Resources (KCR) AmeriCorps program engages 18 full-time and 25 minimum time (spring/summer) members in service throughout Kitsap County. KCR/AmeriCorps members start their 11-month term of service in October and complete it in August. AmeriCorps members serve in a variety of capacities throughout Kitsap County, including:
tutoring at elementary schools in Bremerton and Central Kitsap School Districts;
helping low-income individuals move toward self-sufficiency by teaching employment skills and providing case management within the KCR Employment & Training Division;
assisting Children of the Nations prepare local organizations and schools for emergencies through the Ready Relief emergency preparedness education program;
supporting at-risk youth and teens with the Kitsap Youth in Action program;
assisting court-ordered community service workers with the City of Bremerton Community Service Worker program;
helping the American Red Cross in assisting victims of disaster and through educating local residents, including children, on emergency preparedness;
aiding domestic violence survivors and their families in partnership with the YWCA;
helping Early Childhood Education Assistance Program families and children overcome personal obstacles and move towards self-sufficiency.
minimum time members assist during the summer months by operating local youth camps and by providing additional support for environmental and public safety projects in Kitsap County.
