In 2009, the Serve America Act established six priority areas for CNCS and its programs, including increasing engagement of veterans and service to veterans and military families. Since that time, AmeriCorps and Senior Corps programs have engaged and served tens of thousands of veterans and military families. Building on the success of these efforts, and looking to further highlight our support for the military community, CNCS CEO Wendy Spencer set out to establish a consolidated National Veteran Corps and created special pins for veterans serving in national service programs and for AmeriCorps members and Senior Corps volunteers who serve veterans and military families.
On Veterans Day, we will honor and recognize AmeriCorps members and Senior Corps volunteers who are military veterans and those who are serving veterans and the veteran community by presenting them with a specially designed National Veteran Corps pin. The pins will play a central role in ceremonies that celebrate the service of and to veterans across all CNCS programs.
