Notre Dame AmeriCorps - Seattle holistically aims to build strength in King County’s young people through one-on-one and small group academic instruction, college readiness advisement, and after-school enrichment activities. Sixteen (16) AmeriCorps members serve in Seattle and SeaTac through an AmeriCorps National Direct Grant awarded to Notre Dame Mission Volunteers (NDMV) with headquarters located in Baltimore, MD. NDMV has sites in over 20 different cities and has about 375 members serving across the country.
Notre Dame AmeriCorps is a public/private partnership committed to helping people help themselves. The partnership creates holistic education programs for at-risk students in economically disadvantaged communities. NDMV was developed by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur in response to local educational needs. In 1995, NDMV sought a partnership with AmeriCorps to expand its service through Notre Dame AmeriCorps (NDA). The goal of NDA is to promote education, community empowerment, leadership development, and multicultural harmony in hopes of producing greater unity, less violence, and better informed citizens in our communities.
