On the evening of April 11, 2017, the Seattle Mariners and Serve Washington hosted the ninth annual Salute to Volunteers Night at Safeco Field where the Mariners played the Houston Astros. Pre-game ceremonies included an on-field special tribute to recipients of the 2017 Governor's Volunteer Service Awards where the eldest recipient at 91, Dick Vlist, threw the ceremonial first pitch.
