Consultation process for AmeriCorps National Direct programs

About

National Direct Consultation requires multi-state (also known as national direct) applicants applying for competitive AmeriCorps funding to consult with the state or territorial service commission in the locations in which they are applying to place members.

Serve Washington sees the consultation process as a way to foster meaningful partnerships that will further promote the use of national service as an effective strategy to address unmet needs in communities throughout Washington state.

Process

Through the consultation process Serve Washington hopes to:

  1. fully understand the breadth and scope of national service programs operating in Washington State,
  2. help connect national programs to geographic areas of the state with little or no national service presence, and
  3. effectively use limited resources for cross-stream collaboration, member training, and other events that will lead to increased public awareness of AmeriCorps national service in Washington state.

In order to streamline the consultation process, we are utilizing America’s Service Commissions online National Direct Consultation form for multi-state applicants. You can review the federal fiscal year 2026 National Direct Consultation Form in pdf for reference only.

This consultation process form and the requested accompanying documents are due in advance of the FY26 AmeriCorps NOFO application deadlines established by the AmeriCorps Agency.

Timeline

It is strongly encouraged that multi-state applicants contact the state service commission(s) as early as possible in order to begin a dialogue related to your proposed placement of AmeriCorps members. This may help inform your application to AmeriCorps the agency based on suggestions the state service commission(s) may offer.

Deadline

The form and requested accompanying documents are due in advance of the AmeriCorps NOFO application deadline established by the AmeriCorps agency. For more information regarding consultation requirements, review the FY26 AmeriCorps State and National Grant Notice of Funding Opportunity (when released).

We will confirm receipt of your consultation form via email. If we have questions or concerns we will contact your organization for further clarification.
