United Way of King County - Washington Service Corps

Every student deserves fair and equal access to healthy food. United Way of King County’s Fuel Your Future aims to break down the barriers to healthy food in high-needs neighborhoods, particularly in communities of color and in immigrant and migrant communities. Help reduce childhood hunger by partnering with some of Washington’s highest-needs communities to increase participation in federal meals programs, including school breakfast, afterschool meals, and summer meals, and public benefits like SNAP and WIC.

Fuel Your Future AmeriCorps members serve collaboratively to connect directly with families to understand their food needs. Members connect families with food resources, including meals for youth, grocery boxes, community meals sites, and federal programs like SNAP and WIC, by building relationships with families and youth, and maintaining those relationships over the course of term. Members support other key projects at their service site, including youth enrichment activities and nutrition education.

The Food Access AmeriCorps program serves directly with low-income families across the Puget Sound. AmeriCorps members connect with families to understand their food needs and connect families with federal nutrition programs and community food resources. Members coordinate with local community partners, including school districts and nonprofits, to increase community food security.
