AmeriCorps of Chelan Douglas Community Action Council

AmeriCorps of Chelan Douglas Community Action Council, (previously known as Intermountain AmeriCorps), has served rural school districts and community agencies in North Central Washington State since 1993.

AmeriCorps Members meet critical community needs and help build local organizational capacity. We foster a team environment and AmeriCorps members collectively work toward mutual goals and outcomes throughout the year. The positive impact made on organizations, community members and students who AmeriCorps members serve throughout our region is tremendous!

Education, economic security, healthy futures, and capacity building are among our top objectives. Community outreach, food distribution, teaching English and financial literacy, tutoring and mentoring students, developing new programs and services and supporting current ones are some of the activities AmeriCorps members are involved in throughout North Central Washington. In addition to service at their host sites, members participate in several community projects throughout the year, as a team. These projects may include environmental cleanup, donation drives and outreach to those in need. They also include National Service Days such as Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Earth Day. The AmeriCorps program of Chelan Douglas Community Action Council offers AmeriCorps members professional development training, hands-on experience and mentorship and networking opportunities, with team building as a priority.

Note: A total of 25 AmeriCorps members serve in this program. Some are full time (1,700 hours total) and some serve 1/2 or 1/4 time, depending on the specific needs of their service site and individual needs.

Education

City Year Seattle-King County

City Year is an education-focused, non-profit organization dedicated to helping students and schools succeed. It partners with public schools in under-resourced communities to help students graduate from high school, get ready for college or a career.

Diverse teams of City Year AmeriCorps members serve in schools full-time to provide high-impact student, classroom and school-wide support from the first bell through afterschool programs. They learn how to tutor and help kids develop life skills, like teamwork and setting goals, that are important in school and out. City Year AmeriCorps members give kids more individualized attention and promote a positive culture throughout the whole school alongside teachers and school leaders.

A proud member of the AmeriCorps national service network, City Year is made possible by support from the Corporation for National and Community Service, school district partnerships and private philanthropy from corporations, foundations and individuals.

Student Conservation Association

From the original Student Conservation Association volunteers at Olympic National Park in 1957, through our subsequent alliances with national forests and wildlife refuges, the introduction of urban conservation programs in the 1970s, our landmark Greater Yellowstone Recovery Corps, and the Presidential Citizens Medal presentation to SCA Founder Liz Putnam, SCA has blazed a trail of youth service and stewardship all across America — a movement that today exceeds 130 conservation corps nationwide and 100,000 alumni.

The mission of SCA is to build the next generation of conservation leaders and inspire lifelong stewardship of our environment and communities by engaging young people in hands-on service to the land. SCA provides an array of internship and corps programming across the state of Washington. Corps members engage in conservation, ecological restoration, and recreation management projects with public lands partners, and learn skills that prepare them for future leadership careers in public land management and conservation.
