A priority for Serve Washington is the promotion of service and volunteerism to address the needs of communities throughout the state of Washington. There is a strong tradition of volunteerism in Washington, which ranks 16th in volunteer rates in the nation. Serve Washington in partnership with the Volunteer Centers of Washington Association, the Washington Association of RSVP Directors, and the Citizen Corps Program co- sponsors the Governor's Volunteer Service Awards to recognize Washington's citizens who dedicate their time and talents to help others in their communities. Recipients are nominated by public, private, and nonprofit organizations, and state and local governments from across the state.
