The mission of Citizen Corps is to harness the power of every individual through education, training, and volunteer service to make communities safer, stronger, and better prepared to respond to the threats of terrorism, crime, public health issues, and disasters of all kinds.
Citizen Corps educates, enables, and empowers communities to become better prepared for emergencies and disasters of all types through service, volunteerism, education, and training. With five programs under the Citizen Corps umbrella, there are countless ways for individuals to become involved and engaged in making our communities and families safer. Whether starting a Neighborhood Watch, volunteering with a local Volunteers in Police Service or Fire Corps program, joining a Medical Reserve Corps, or taking Community Emergency Response Team training, there is a role for everyone in building Washington’s disaster resilience.
